When it was time for us to refresh our Shred the Patriarchy graphic, we scoured Instagram for inspiration. We wanted something bold, playful, flirtatious, and fun. When we landed upon Grace García's account, we knew we had found exactly what we were looking for.

Grace lives in Valencia, Spain and is inspired by illustrating, animals, and “the wonderful world of wheels.” But there is one thing predominates: women. 

 

This is obvious if you spend any amount of time on her IG @gracegarciasalcedo. Her illustrations may just make the oversight committee at IG squirm (insert cackle), delighted by what they see and also assessing the “appropriateness” (insert eye roll) of depicting the nude female form. From women lying topless on vintage cars with rainbows emanating from between their legs to depicting two women exchanging a passionate kiss, Grace’s erotic feminist art is an exploration into the queer female gaze. 

Grace attributes her openness to pushing the boundaries around society’s expectations of women to the way she was raised. Her parents never stopped her from doing what she wanted, even if it was “inappropriate” for a girl. As she got older, she realized that not all women were encouraged to be their full selves. What was normal for her was not, and is not, for many. 

At Coalition, we believe that the strongest collaborations result when shared values exist. Working with Grace has allowed us, as a women-owned ski and snowboard brand, to use our apparel to start and further conversations about our bodies, our sexuality, and our position in society that are often missing from snow sports.
