Backcountry Beta: Successful Communication in the Backcountry + Beyond

Backcountry Beta: Successful Communication in the Backcountry + Beyond

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to speak up and express your needs, but didn’t feel like you had the vocab or ability to pinpoint what exactly you wanted to say? Maybe something hasn’t sat right with you, but you couldn’t exactly put your finger on it. For a lot of people, this ends up with us ignoring our body’s intuition and feelings, and not saying anything at all.

We always talk about how important communication is, however most people do not have the tools to do so effectively. That is why we are so excited to talk with therapist, cat lover, badass skier and backcountry adventurer Mimi Connell for our 5th and final event of the season.

When: Wednesday, March 6th at 5 pm PST

Where: On the Zooms! Register in the Coalition Clubhouse

What: In this session we will cover...

  • Why so many people struggle to recognize and subsequently communicate their feelings to others
  • Reflecting on moments in time you weren’t comfortable speaking up about a feeling and what dynamics were at play in these moments
  • How can we identify what we are feeling, so we can name it for ourselves (and others) in situations both in and out of the backcountry

About the speaker:

Mimi Connell (she/her) is a licensed therapist and nutritionist. She practices from an anti-oppressive and trauma informed framework, providing support for folx processing difficult experiences so they can find more resilience and ease in their daily lives. When she’s not working, you can find Mimi in Leadville, CO, where she spends most of her free time skiing, sitting in hot springs, reading fiction, snuggling her cats and wondering if it’s time to start training for that trail run race she signed up for this summer...
