Turning 10! Full-frontal nudity! Best sleepover ever! Japow! Elephants! Old friends! New friends! Awards! Trophies! What will 2024 bring us? No one knows. But here’s our most exciting happenings from 2023.

 

COALITION TURNED 10! What an accomplishment. There are so many people who are surprised that we're still around, and if we're being honest, we are a little bit too. We kicked off the celebrations by throwing ourselves a birthday party. We took over Roller Kingdom in Reno, tried not to run over children, and definitely got some double-takes with our uniform... 

 

 

We shot heaps of nudes, which must make our list of high points. It's a natural evolution of Free the Nip Friday, and there really is something special about being that vulnerable on your own terms, while also feeling so incredibly supported by the people around you, and then having the courage to put it out into the world. The fact that all of that went so well is an indication of the kindness and camaraderie in this community.

We racked up the awards! From winning the Small But Mighty business award from the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada to snagging some Blister Review badges, it was great for our egos. 

You know what else is NBD? Running a brick-and-mortar shop open year-round. We did that for the first time too in 2023, and while there are elements of Far Out that have flattened us, what a joy to walk into a space that is full of goods made with love and passion by small businesses and artisans who are doing goods things in the world. The shop has been another way that we've understood how to have power in this world, and not a not power over, but a power to by investing in so many women-owned and indie small businesses. 

We also ran our first Far Out trips to Japan and Mt. Bachelor in 2023. What I learned about our trips is that they are so much more than an adventure. They are life-long dear friend-making experiences. It's difficult to put the impact of them into words, so you'll have to join us to find out for yourself.  

There are certainly some things that we've left out because of our memory, exhaustion, and desire to keep some of it close to our hearts. We realize that we're supposed to hype our great accomplishments more and tell you how we're going to crush it in the new year, but that feels a bit disingenuous. We still need a cease fire in Gaza. Too many of us continue to feel pressed by an uncertain economy. The world continues to be full of inequities and unfairness that can only be solved by our collective action. That's really what our 2024 should be about.
