You've got questions, we've got answers

FAQs

Shred the what?

The patriarchy isn't just one thing—it's all the systems that decide who gets to belong, who gets heard, who gets to take up space, and who has access to resources. It's in our daily lives, shaping everything from how safe we feel walking alone to whether we can afford to exist.

In the outdoors, it looks like gatekeeping, media and businesses treating women and underrepresented folks as an afterthought, and a culture that has made too many people feel like the outdoors weren't for them.

Shredding the patriarchy means we're changing that story. We're using our love of skiing, snowboarding, and getting outside to dismantle those barriers—one bike ride, one summit, one lap, one person at a time.

Will the details of each meet-up be publicized?

Only in our community channel. You’ll need to register to know the when’s and the where’s and the how’s. This is one way that we can make sure people feel safe showing up.

Can I organize my own meet-up?

Yes! Indicate in the registration form that you'd like to organize your own meet-up and we'll reach out to help you get set up. It's easy and low key.

I own a business. Can I organize a meet-up?

Absolutely! Fill out the registration form and we'll be in touch.

Do I have to join an existing meet-up?

Nope! You can organize your own or you can roll solo. Either way, you will want to register.

Do I have to fundraise?

No, although we would encourage you to donate or share one of the Shred the Patriarchy Fundraising campaigns.

How does the fundraising work?

If you choose to fundraise, you'll be invited to set up a fundraising page that will allow you to securely raise funds for your chosen organizations or groups.

The beneficiaries should be local to you and serving people who need the support the most -- think mutual aid or organizations that serve immigrant communities, domestic violence survivors, and unsheltered people. You know your community the best.

You create the page, and we'll be there with you every step of the way to answer questions and help you be as successful as possible.

How will the funds be distributed?

In April, we will donate the funds on your behalf to your chosen beneficiaries. Please note that there are platform and credit card fees that will be deducted. We will not keep any of the funds.

Besides a warm fuzzy feeling, are there any perks?

Yes!

When it's all said and done, we'll convene for a virtual Awards Ceremony where we've got prizes for top fundraisers, because helping to make the world should be rewarded!

  • Top Fundraising Team: Grand prize package
  • Most Creative Team Activity: Prize for the team with the most unexpected or unique shred
  • People's Choice: Community votes on favorite team story
