Some of you might be wondering how tariffs will affect Coalition and our pricing strategy. Here's what you need to know, as of April 9, 2025. We will keep you updated as things change, as we will know they will, because it's just a big game to the man in charge and we're simply pieces he's playing with.
- Everything that is in stock on our website will not increase in price. In fact, our remaining skis and snowboards were just marked down for our spring sale.
- For the past 11 years, we have worked with a lovely and highly acclaimed Japanese family who has manufactured skis and snowboards for three generations. Their factory is based in China.
- If the current tariffs of 145% are in effect when we need to receive our goods in September, we will go out of business.
- If the tariffs are any higher than 20%, we will look at increasing prices, charging for shipping, adding a sliding scale, and who knows what else (you know I'm clever).
We are incredibly fortunate that we can take a deep breath and give ourselves a few months to make what will be very difficult decisions. We have far too many friends who don't have that kind of time. We encourage you to look at the labels of the goods you have purchased from small businesses and consider who else might benefit from your support right now, even if it's a DM or email to tell them how much you appreciate them.
We're trying not to let the tariffs paralyze us, remaining cautiously optimistic that before our next shipment of skis and snowboards arrives in August, they will be lowered. At the same time we're bracing to lose our life's work. There might have been some drinking and cigs over the past week, but we're not ones to give up without a fight, so there's also been protesting and organizing.
