PEDAL POWER

Cycling Safari

Have you always wanted to go to Africa but were unsure about doing it alone? Our CEO Jen Gurecki has spent nearly 20 years traveling through Africa and put together this trip so you could experience the people and the land deeply and thoughtfully, all on two wheels.

This 13-day cycling trip through Kenya will have you pedaling through the Maasai Mara and making your way to the white sand beaches of Diani. Along the way, you'll get to meet the women of Zawadisha, glamp in safari tents, make lasting memories with new friends, and be wowed by the wildlife.

Cost: $6,000 - $6,500

Dates: June 28th - July 10th, 2024

Skill level: With less demanding days than our Pedal Power cycling tour, this trip is appropriate for all cyclists.

Impact: All proceeds benefit Zawadisha, a micro-lending nonprofit serving women in rural Kenya founded by our CEO Jen Gurecki.

Stop for a soda and to check out the hippo pools along the way before finishing at Aruba Camp. In the afternoon we swap the bikes for a 4x4 open-sided Landcruiser and head out for a half-day safari in the National Park with the aim of seeing the Big 5.

DAY 5, July 2nd: On this incredible wildlife day riding between the National Park and Mara North Conservancy, expect to see a large array of animals. We cross the Mara River and climb up the escarpment to Siria Camp. This beautiful luxury tented camp offers incredible views over the National Park and the route you have just ridden. Bikes will be packed and sent on to Tsavo for the next leg of riding.

DAY 6, July 3rd: Depart the Mara in the morning for a half-day drive back to Nairobi. Relax at the hotel and enjoy a meal at one of Jen's favorite restaurants.

These ancient volcanic hills are some of the most mysterious in Kenya, home to a lost mountain rhino herd and unique species. Spend the evening at the Shimba Hills Lodge, overlooking the countryside with incredible views.

DAY 11, July 8th: On the final day of riding, we descend downhill. As the air gets more humid, we pass through Swahili villages and arrive at the Indian Ocean. A cocktail on the beach brings our journey to a close with the team dancing the night away under coconut trees.

Do I need to be an expert cyclist or have ridden long distances before?

Nope! You will need to feel comfortable riding between five and six hours per day at a moderate pace, around 15km per hour. We'll be facilitating Strava challenges for us to train together before the trip.

How many people are going?

Maximum 15 people will be on this trip. We will all have a chance to get to know each other before the trip through optional monthly Zoom calls. Anyone regardless of identity are welcome to join us; we will be centering the experiences of women, non-binary, and trans participants.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes, we offer multiple payment plans. Pay the $250 deposit today and we will bill you the remainder in three equal payments. Half of the balance is due by January 1, 2024 and the remainder is due by March 1, 2024.

Who's organizing this trip?

Jen Gurecki, our CEO and the founder of Zawadisha, is organizing this trip in collaboration with Savage Wilderness Safaris. In fact, Jen cycled across Africa with James Savage in 2018.

How does donation/fundraising part work?

You can opt for a reduced rate of $6,000 if you commit to fundraising a minimum of $500 for Zawadisha. You will have access to a personalized fundraising page like this one that makes it easy for you to raise tax-deductible donations. We do encourage everyone to fundraise so that we can make the most positive impact in the lives of the women Zawadisha serves. If you opt not to fundraise, the cost of the trip is $6,500.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

No, there will be front suspension mountain bikes available for you to rent at $25 per day of cycling. However, bringing your own bike is not as difficult as you might think! We recommend front suspension mountain bikes unless you are an experienced gravel cyclist.

I'm afraid of holding the group back -- should I still come?

YES! We will be able to split into different guided groups so people can go at their own pace. We also will have a support vehicle in case you'd like to ride shorter distances each day.

What will the lodging be like?

We will stay in mid-range, comfortable hotels walking distance to food and shopping in Nairobi. There is one night of glamping in the Mara. All other lodging will be in safari lodges until we reach the coast, where we will stay in a private home on the beach.

What about accommodation at guest houses?

Expect double occupancy, running water (should be hot), a cozy bed and mosquito net, internet (not always reliable in rural areas) and catered meals.

What's the food like?

It's delicious, nutritious, and filling :) All meals will be prepared for you, and we can accommodate dietary needs.

Will I have to carry my own stuff on my bike?

No. We will have a support vehicle that will transport all of your personal items.

How can I get to know the people on this trip?

We will hold optional monthly Zoom calls. Please be prepared to share your pronouns, the native land you reside on, and a little bit about yourself. You are welcome to join the calls before you commit to learn about the trip prior to booking. Please contact us for the registration link for the calls.

Why Coalition Snow?

Women Owned & Operated

We knew we deserved better equipment and a community that saw us, heard us, valued us, and put us front and center. So we said goodbye to shrink-it-and-pink-it and toxic bro culture and said hello to something more: a community that values camaraderie over competition, solidarity over sending, and compassion over cuntery.

Performance Driven

We believe that the recipe for making a kick-ass pair of skis or snowboards has nothing to do with what's between your legs but what's between your ears and in your heart. We start with a concept that meets our unique needs and work with a team of engineers to bring our designs to life. We manufacture in reputable factories that prioritize the health and safety of their team and the environment. We test, bring in our Ambassadors and Athletes (did you know that our skis have been in the Olympics?), refine, and then deliver a finished product to you.

Building An Inclusive Community

From the beginning, we’ve been willing to do and say what our peers won’t. There is no place for the status quo, no room for hanging back, no time for wait or play it safe. In everything we create, we aim to make a positive impact in the world of snowsports and beyond. And that’s what makes us different. We're Coalition Snow, and we're the ones we've been waiting for.
